It’s been a long time since we had kittens. One forgets. They’re into everything. I thought I kept a moderately tidy home, but they show up wearing dust bunnies, from God only knows where. I guess the bright spot is that they’re dusting areas that I’ve clearly missed.
They follow me around making trouble with whatever it is I am trying to accomplish. Today was laundry. First, they kept running off with the socks. Then, finally they settled in for a nap. I guess I can do without the laundry basket for a while.
Thankfully, there are two. For the most part they keep each other busy, which is good because I don’t have that kind of energy to entertain a kitten.
We’ve set firm rules. For the most part, they’ve been pretty good. We decided at the outset, no kittens on the bed–and that’s been the hardest thing to enforce. They want to be where we are. I should take it as a compliment, but at 2:00 am, I’m not easily flattered.
They are beautiful Alta!

Does one of them have a slightly more narrow face than the other?

Yes, but more than that. The little one was the runt of the litter–he’s smaller in every way, except personality!

No way to compare their size unless they’re in the same shot; )

I guess I should’ve mentioned their names, Stan and Ollie.

My friends who have cats (2 in one case, 7 in another) all say “Good luck with ANY rules!” 🤪

There are rules. I’ve always had cats with rules. Never on tables or counters. No climbing curtains (though, here we have none, so that’s easy.) No eating of electrical cords (a rule that has already been broken, but I fully intend to enforce.) No biting. Not too much to ask for a cushy life. The important part of the rules is to get the humans to abide by them, and enforce them, early.

I’ve been deliberately avoiding cat posts, as ours died around Thanksgiving and it’s been sad and lonely around here. We never could keep him off the bed, so after awhile we just gave in. Of course, he was only one… They really do make us laugh, don’t they?

My condolences. Our old cat, who was the king of the castle, died in early December. The house was just too lonely without him. (And I tear up, now, just thinking of him.) We talked about going pet-free. We talked about waiting for spring, so there would be kittens to choose. But when a local ad (just ten minutes away) for two kitten brothers appeared… (Though, it’s telling that I was looking at the ads.)
My sweetie has a mild allergy, so we plan to hold firm on the bed rule. It was too late to retrain the old cat, he already had bed status, and wasn’t going to give it up. Kittens are a handful, and keep us laughing for sure. Today I’ll be laughing all the way into town, to pick up a new laptop charger. Apparently the wires were too much fun to survive.

We are planning a ten day vacation in June, so I think we will try to wait until we get back for any animals. Though if a likely one just shows up, we won’t turn it away…
And I agree — Absolutely no cats on the kitchen counters!
