Winter Wonderland
A.V. Walters
It seemed like a no-brainer to me. We’ve been cooped up with winter for months, so the idea of fresh line-dried laundry was like a breath of fresh air. We’re having one of those wonderful February breaks with sunshine and temps in the 40s and 50s. Ah, sunshine!
Of course, it is a little odd to have to wear winter boots out to the clothesline. While I was out hanging laundry, a number of my neighbors drove by on their own busy Saturday mornings. Their reactions made me wonder. I could see them do the double-take when they spied me. Three of them slowed their cars to a crawl and stared in wonder at what I was doing. In the background, I could hear snowmobiles. The moment was rich with contrast.
I suppose they think I’m the crazy one. I wonder. At these temperatures, by tomorrow the snow may be gone.
Did I mention that it was sunny?
Being crazy is entirely underrated!

If it’s sunny why not? I presume your laundry contained some hot pieces of lingerie as there is no photo or did WordPress censor it? Amelia

Ha-I just got in from taking the sheets off the line. IMagine hanging out in February!! That’s by far the earliest I have ever managed. And yes–boots are necessary.
One of the neighbors did stop and said “We always know when spring is here—you have your laundry out!” That made me smile.
Enjoy that sunshine and warmth. I’m sure it’s short lived……….

I guess my neighbors, over time, will get to expect this of me–and it won’t be such an event.

Looks like the laundry would freeze!

Not with daytime temps in the 40s and 50s. Even at freezing temps you can hang laundry–it freezes and sublimates. Comes in after a day or two, almost dry.

Me, it reminds me of a simpler time. I hope the clothing doesn’t freeze out there! Hhehe–I see from your comments I’m not the only one worrying about that!

Only the Californians seem to mention it.

I would have hung mine out the other day too, except I was brilliant and took my clothes line rope down for the winter… 😦

Well, don’t worry. If the last ten days is any measure, we’ll have numerous “spring” opportunities. We went from snow to no, in a blink of an eye–and then did both, all over again.

Yes, been crazy weather here too. 75 degrees and sunny on Feb. 24! Next day it was back to 35 degrees and gray.

P.S. I always love photos of clothes hanging on a line — i have several on my camera waiting for the right post — but yours is by far the best i’ve ever seen!
